It may seem odd to write a blog post about how lucky we are just after I told you in my last post that I am currently unemployed (not by choice) and looking for a new job. But we are lucky. I just had a little read through the first few blog posts in my blog from August 2012 and goodness, how far we have come in those 3 1/2 years.
In the last 3 years, I moved from Germany to the UK (my 3 year UK-iversary is coming up in March), we bought a house, got engaged, got married and adopted our two sweet cats. We own a car which was handed down to us by my MIL when she bought a new one. We went to Germany during the Christmas break and we are going on our honeymoon in just under 3 weeks.
Despite my not having a job and being about 3 weeks short of qualifying for contribution-based JSA (despite working and paying NI contributions for the past 2 1/2 years, grrr! Long story, don’t get me started!), we should be ok. I do worry about our financial situation, having lost one income rather suddenly without any warning, but luckily, after some cuts we have made, we should be able to pay all our bills until I have a job. We won’t have much left at the end of the month, but we should be ok.
That is lucky.
Thanks to my very generous MIL we are going on an absolutely amazing honeymoon at the end of this month. Lucky.
It looks like there is actually some demand for my skills in the job market here (although you never know how quickly that will help you find a job). Lucky.
We have a beautiful home (that we own) with two lovely cats and we don’t have to worry about losing our house or not being able to pay our bills. Lucky.
I am married to the love of my life and I know he absolutely adores me, as I adore him. We found each other despite living in different countries and we have created a wonderful life together over the past 4 years of our relationship. Lucky.
Nevertheless, I am hoping I will have a job again soon but in the meantime, I shouldn’t forget how lucky N. and I are.
