An evening cycle

Yesterday was the warmest day yet at 20 degrees. It was absolutely lovely with the sun shining almost all day. I am so happy it is finally warmer here. We definitely waited long enough. In the evening, N. and I went out for a cycle in the area around the town we live in.

Tranent is a few miles outside of Edinburgh and surrounded by lots of nature, hills, woods, rivers, you name it. It’s ideal for going for walks or cycles. N. loves going out on his mountain bike and while I usually have no idea where exactly we are, he seems to know all the paths and roads around here really well.

We ended up being out really late, until around 10pm, and it was still not completely dark by the time we got home. Definitely one of the advantages of living so far up north. It is only early May and already we get an hour more of daylight than Munich. By mid-June it will be several hours. I remember being here last summer, and how late the sun would set, and it’s fantastic. (I know, I know, it’s the opposite way around during winter, I’m not excited at all about winter.)

I managed to snap a few pictures again. Usually when we go out here, I just take my iPhone with me, although there have been more than one occasion that I wished I had my DSLR with me, but it’s just not handy to have on me all the time. Luckily the iPhone 4S takes pretty good pictures.

One of the geocaches we found. Usually they are just little waterproof plastic containers, but sometimes they can look like this. We also found a duck on our cycle last night. Hah. (Both were actually geocaches planted by N.’s mom.)

There used to be lots of coal mining in the area (read more). Some of the path we cycled on actually used to be a railway.

If we are going to go on a lot of cycles here, I think I may have to invest in a mountain bike at some point. My bike is more of a city bike, and definitely not ideal for cycling down gravel and forest paths, at times I thought I was close to having a concussion. Okay, that might be a slight exaggeration but you get the idea. Maybe this is something to consider in a few months, after I have a steady flow of income again.

Speaking of, I had my interview on Monday, and in my opinion it went quite well. I was told they would be in touch by the end of this or beginning of next week, so I should know more in a few days. I know that they are interviewing another 2–3 people this week, so let’s hope I made a good (better) impression. Overall I do think I would be really well-qualified for this job and that it would be a good opportunity for me. Let’s hope it works out. I’ll be sure to update you guys once I know more.

  1. I agree, the iphone takes awesome pictures! :) Although I sometimes wish I had my DSLR as well.

Looks like a great bike ride (or “cycle” :) you sound so British already! ;))
