It’s my last day in Germany. The move went really well on Saturday and we were in Munich by 6pm, earlier than anticipated. After sleeping for 11 hours that night, I felt slightly more human again on Sunday.
Monday, my dad and I took some boxes to the post office to ship to the UK. It turned out to be a little more than I had expected but it’s okay. I have still only spent a ridiculously small amount of money on this – international – move, especially considering all the stuff I was able to take with me.
Last night, I had dinner with my Munich friends at one of my favorite bars/restaurants, Escobar, a sort of farewell dinner. This is my core group of friends in Munich, only missing my best friend, who is in Edinburgh at the moment. We’ve known each other since 7th grade, so for nearly 18 years. Knowing that, and knowing that they are still some of my best friends after I’ve lived in Heidelberg, the States and Spain, I have no doubt we will continue to be friends and stay in touch. I’ve not really lived in Munich for over 10 years, so all that’s going to change is that we won’t see each other that often anymore. It was a great evening, I had a blast chatting with my friends, like in old times, only saying goodbye was a little sad.
Today, I ran some last-minute errands, got myself a charm for my Pandora bracelet to represent my roots (in the colors of the Bavarian flag), and some other things I wanted to get before leaving tomorrow. I packed, which was a bit tricky, having to deal with both the size and weight limitations of easyjet, but I managed to fit everything in eventually. Tonight I had dinner with my parents. It will be our last dinner together for a while, although my parents have already booked a trip to Edinburgh for May.
Well, it is nearly 10pm now, so there isn’t much time left. Tomorrow morning, my parents and I will be leaving for the airport, and I will be on my way to Edinburgh. I cannot wait to be in N.’s and my new home, get some snuggles, and relax for a few days. N. is off work over Easter, and while we also have errands to run, it will be great to spend so much time together before he goes back to work on Tuesday.
Tonight I am planning to write a couple more job applications that are due this week, although I am feeling a little buzzed from the wine I had with dinner.
So, this is it. The past few months leading up to my move have been exciting and stressful, to say the least. Now the day is nearly here, and tomorrow I am starting a new chapter in my life. I am excited and beyond happy.
Thanks for staying with me until now. See you on the flip side.
